The Wisconsin State Open competition on January 18, 2014 was very successful. There were 98 competitors on three platforms with many crossing over into multiple competition categories. Traditional powerlifting (3 Lift) remains the most popular with bench press only second and push-pull coming into the USAPL Wisconsin scene.
We saw many great lifts, we watched many state and American records get broken, we bought 50/50 cash raffle tickets in hopes of winning half the pot, we played bingo, we learned the names of many competitors from the announcers and the screens displaying the Marksteiner program, we watched as teenagers approached the platform to reach new goals, we saw Master lifters hit fantastic numbers to show how it is done, we stayed to the end for awards. We forgot to wear our pedometers to log the many, many steps taken that day. It was quite a day. Countless great lifts on the platforms.
RG Lukow, Scott Schubert and the Whitnall High School Powerlifting Team were great hosts. The number of volunteers was fantastic with both team members and their parents working the contest. They are very pleased to have been a part of this event. Now they are returning their focus to hosting a Wisconsin High School Powerlifting Association (WHSPA) regional contest on Feb. 8th with many team members competing. Good luck to this team as they work towards another WHSPA and USAPL national boys team titles to finish out the season.
See you at the next Wisconsin USAPL contest!
