September 2014 Chair Update

In my opinion, we are coming into the best time of the year here in Wisconsin. Cooler nights with sunny days. The humidity could come down a bit – I agree with you. It is an exciting time of the year.

Devan (Doan) Curley, Dave Doan, Robert Crawford and Dave Johnson competed at IPF Bench Press Nationals in San Antonio, Texas towards the end of August. Results are available online.

Still within August came the announcement of the 26th annual Hudson Natural Open having received twelve entry forms already. Mind you, the competition date is Nov. 1st and there is only sixty slots available. Last year Shawn and Kathy Cain could not take any more competitors two weeks out. Who knows when this year will fill up. If you are training for the Hudson, you may want to commit via your entry form or wait until the next contest. As of September 2nd, 24 entry forms have been received!

When is the next USA Powerlifting sanctioned contest in Wisconsin? The WI State Open is January 17th in Greenfield. Same venue as last year, same partnership between myself and Whitnall HS powerlifting team, same three platform setup, same categories of 3Lift / BP only / Push-pull. Number of slots for entrants is limited to 140 this year. On-line registration only with electronic payment. No walk-ins or late entries will be accepted. More information to be available in the next six weeks on this website and the WI USAPL Facebook page. I am told there are a few teams being formed in and around Wisconsin. Very exciting and will have to adjust my budget for team awards.

Also looking to promote the collegiate age category at The WI State Open contest so we have Wisconsin representation at 2015 USAPL Collegiate Nationals April 10-12. Compete at the January contest in the collegiate category and you may be eligible for one of two opportunities where the (2015 collegiate) nationals entry fee is taken care of.

The month of September has had a great start and it is the young’uns leading it. Nope – not the start of school. World Sub-Junior & Junior Championships are this week in Oroshaza, Hungary. Many postings on USAPL Wisconsin and Wisconsin High School Powerlifting Association Facebook pages. Early mornings are the best time to catch the action live. Wisconsin has many slots on the US team and has been steadily contributing to team points on the first two days. More great lifts to come.

Many of you have stated you would like to ‘give back to the sport’. I am looking for sponsors and product donations. Would your employer consider sponsoring the upcoming events – WI State Open in January or the USAPL High School Nationals in March? Maybe you would like to cover some of the entry fee cost for a high school competitor at nationals. Any interest or any ideas please let me know.

Best regards,
Tonya L.
